Steps and notes
What is PDF Watermark?
A watermark is a semi-transparent text layer stamped over the page content, typically used to mark documents as DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, or to credit the recipient ("Prepared for ACME Corp") before distribution. Single-line mode draws one centered rotated line per page — the classic look. Tile mode repeats the text in a grid across the whole page, which survives cropping and partial screenshots better. The watermark is drawn above existing content, so it is visible on top of images and text but, at low opacity, does not prevent reading.
- Select a PDF file
- Type the watermark text and tune the style
- Apply and download the result
- The source file is never modified — a new PDF is generated with the watermark layer on top
Frequently asked questions
- Can the watermark be removed?
- A text watermark drawn this way is a page annotation like any other content — a determined user with a PDF editor can remove it. It deters casual reuse; it is not DRM.
- What opacity should I use?
- The default 0.18 is readable on white without hiding content. For photo-heavy pages, 0.25-0.35 with tile mode keeps the mark visible; above 0.5 the underlying text becomes hard to read.
- Does the watermark work on rotated pages?
- The text is placed in page coordinate space, so on a page stored in landscape rotation the watermark follows the page itself — it may appear rotated relative to the viewer. Verify on one page before batch-marking a mixed-orientation document.
