Password Generator

Generates strong random passwords with a cryptographic random source — length and character sets under your control.

Generate strong, secure random passwords online — pick the length (8-128) and character sets, with a cryptographic random source. Ambiguous characters (Il1O0) excluded by default, nothing leaves your browser.

Steps and notes

What is Password Generator?

A password generator creates random strings strong enough to use as real account credentials. This one draws from the browser cryptographic random source (crypto.getRandomValues, the same class of source behind Web Crypto), so the output is unpredictable rather than merely unique. You control the length (8–128 characters) and the character classes — uppercase, lowercase, digits, symbols — and visually ambiguous characters (I l 1 O 0 o) are excluded by default so the password survives being read off a screen or written down. For accounts that matter, the usual guidance applies: longer is stronger (a 16+ character random password outperforms any clever short one), every account gets its own password, and a password manager is the practical way to hold them all.

  1. Set the length (8–128)
  2. Tick the character classes you need
  3. Click refresh until you like one, then copy
  • Uses the browser crypto.getRandomValues source — suitable for real account passwords, not just placeholders
  • Visually ambiguous characters (I l 1 O 0 o) are excluded by default so passwords stay readable when transcribed
  • Everything is generated locally; nothing is transmitted or logged

Frequently asked questions

What makes a password strong?
Length and randomness. A 16+ character random password is outside practical brute-force range; complexity rules (add a symbol, add a digit) matter far less than length. A random 20-character password from this tool is stronger than any human-memorable phrase.
Is this password generator safe to use?
Yes — the passwords are generated in your browser from the Web Crypto random source and never transmitted. The practical risk of a generated password is not the generator, it is where you store it: use a password manager rather than a note file.
How long should my password be?
16 characters is a sensible floor for accounts you care about; 20+ for email, banking and password-manager unlock. This tool caps at 128, far beyond any realistic need.
Why exclude characters like I, l and 0?
They are easily confused when reading a password off a screen, printing it, or saying it over the phone. Excluding them removes transcription errors without meaningfully shrinking the search space. Toggle them back on if your system requires specific characters.
