Steps and notes

What is Morse Code Converter?

  1. Paste the text or the Morse code
  2. Pick the conversion direction
  3. Copy the converted result
  • Supports A–Z, 0–9 and common punctuation; characters with no Morse mapping (such as CJK) are skipped when encoding
  • In the encoded output, letters are separated by spaces and words by /
  • When decoding, the word separator may also be written as | or |
  • Decoding an unknown code point outputs ?

Frequently asked questions

Why are words separated by a slash?
Morse only has dot/dash and gaps, and text has two levels of separation (letters and words). Written Morse needs a visible word gap, and the slash is the convention — a single space would be ambiguous.
Is Morse case-sensitive?
No — Morse has no case and no punctuation of its own except a few procedural signals. This encoder accepts mixed input and maps every letter to the same code regardless of case.
What is the classic SOS sequence?
Three short, three long, three short: ... --- ... It was chosen because the pattern is unmistakable even under noise, not because it abbreviates anything.
What is Morse code?
A letter-encoding system from the 1840s where each character is a sequence of dots and dashes — SOS (... --- ...) is its most famous sequence. Letters are separated by spaces and words by a slash.
