MAC address lookup
Looks up the vendor behind a MAC address — useful for identifying unknown devices on a network.
Find the vendor and manufacturer of a device by its MAC address.
Steps and notes
What is MAC address lookup?
Every network interface carries a MAC whose first three bytes identify its manufacturer. Enter an address and this tool resolves that OUI prefix to the vendor name using a bundled offline copy of the IEEE registry — the lookup runs entirely in your browser and works without a network connection.
- Enter the MAC address
- Click look up
- Read the vendor information
- The first 24 bits identify the vendor and the last 24 can be rewritten, so this locates a vendor, not a device
Frequently asked questions
- Why is my vendor shown as unknown?
- The address may use a locally administered format (the second hex digit is 2, 6, A or E) — those are assigned by software, not IEEE, so no vendor exists for them. Randomised MACs from phones also have no meaningful vendor.
- Where does the vendor data come from?
- From the IEEE OUI registry, bundled into the page as static data. Nothing is sent to a server, so the lookup also works offline.
- Which part of the MAC is the vendor?
- The first three bytes, e.g. 00:1A:2B in 00:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E. The remaining three bytes are the device-specific serial the vendor assigns.
