YAML to JSON converter — Guide
Simply convert YAML to JSON with this online live converter.
What it is and when to use it
YAML is everywhere in config and CI, but code and APIs overwhelmingly consume JSON. This tool parses YAML into its data model and writes it back as JSON. Because YAML is a strict superset of JSON, the conversion is faithful: indentation defines nesting, dash lists become arrays, and YAML's type inference (booleans, numbers, null) is preserved as the matching JSON values. The JSON-to-YAML tool reverses it when you need a YAML file from JSON.
Converts YAML into JSON, a common step when handling configuration files or API data.

Questions people ask
- Does the conversion keep my data types?
- Yes. YAML infers booleans, integers, floats and null, and those become the correct JSON true/false/number/null. A string like "123" stays a string because it was quoted or unambiguous, so the JSON types match the YAML intent.
- What happens to YAML comments?
- They are dropped — JSON has no representation for comments, so there is nowhere to put them. If the comments carry meaning (for example a deprecation note), preserve the YAML source alongside the generated JSON.
- Why did my value turn into a number or boolean?
- YAML auto-types bare words: yes, no, true, false, on and off become booleans, and 1, 1.5 and 1e3 become numbers. If you need them as strings, quote them in the YAML; otherwise the JSON will correctly reflect YAML's interpretation.
