List converter — Guide

Remove duplicates, sort, reverse, lowercase, trim and add prefix/suffix to a list, one item per line. Everything runs in your browser — no upload.

What it is and when to use it

Clean up a list of items, one per line, without opening a spreadsheet: lowercase everything, drop duplicate lines, reverse the order, sort ascending or descending, trim whitespace off each item, wrap every item with a prefix and suffix (quotes, commas, markup), wrap the finished list once with its own prefix and suffix, choose what separates the values, and decide whether each item keeps its own line. Paste a column out of a spreadsheet, reshape it, paste it back — the text-level alternative to fighting with formulas.

Sorts, de-duplicates, adds prefixes/suffixes and reverses multi-line text in one go — a big time saver when tidying data.

How to use it

  1. Paste the data, one item per line
  2. Tick or select the operations you need
  3. Copy the processed result

A worked example

Fill in a sample list

banana
apple
cherry
apple

Copy this into the tool, or open List converter

Things that trip people up

  • No transpose and no truncation: the unit of work is the whole line.
  • Duplicate removal runs before trimming, so "apple" and "apple " are still two different items.
  • Sorting is applied after reversing — with both enabled the sorted order wins.

Questions people ask

How do I remove duplicate lines?
Tick remove duplicates. It runs before trimming, so "apple" and "apple " still count as two different lines. If your data carries stray spaces, expect near-duplicates to survive unless you clean them first.
Do blank lines stay in the output?
No. After trimming, empty items are dropped, so blank lines and lines that contained only whitespace disappear from the result.
What is the difference between the item prefix and the list prefix?
The item prefix goes in front of every value; the list prefix goes in front of the finished result once. To build a quoted array, use the item prefix for the quotes and comma, and the list prefix for the opening bracket.
I turned on reverse and sorting — why is the order still sorted?
Sorting is applied after reversing, so with both enabled the sort wins and the reverse has no visible effect. Pick one of the two.
Can I keep everything on one line?
Yes — turn off keep line breaks and the separator becomes the only thing between items, so the list collapses into a single line such as "a, b, c".
