Email Address Normalizer
Normalises email addresses into a standard form — useful for de-duplication, cleaning data or matching accounts.
Normalize email addresses to a standard format for easier comparison, deduplication and data cleaning.
Steps and notes
What is Email Address Normalizer?
Normalise a list of email addresses (one per line) so that equivalent addresses collapse into one canonical form — lower-casing and folding away provider-specific aliases such as Gmail-ignored dots and plus-addressing. Built for deduplication: merge mailing lists, clean CRM exports, compare subscriber files.
- Paste one or more email addresses
- Read the normalised results
- Apply the rules you need for + tags, casing, dots, etc.
- Gmail's dot and + tag rules differ between providers; confirm your own policy before de-duplicating
Frequently asked questions
- Why do john.doe@gmail.com and johndoe@gmail.com match?
- Gmail ignores dots in the local part and treats everything after a plus sign as a label, so both belong to the same mailbox. Normalisation folds them together so your dedupe actually dedupes.
- Is plus-addressing safe to strip for every provider?
- It is safe for Gmail-style providers. Some mail servers treat plus tags as real distinct addresses, so keep the raw list as the source of truth and use the normalised one only for comparison.
- Does normalisation fix typos?
- No — it folds equivalent spellings, not wrong ones. gmial.com stays wrong; syntax and domain checks are a separate concern.
